Questions and Answers on Excel Macros

Level: Intermediate
Topic:
Making sure that the file is not saved on itself

Question:
In my Excel application I open a template for a report and I want the users to save it under  new name. I don't want them to be able to save it without changing the name.

Answer:
Make your template "Read Only" in Windows Explorer. Go to the folder where your template resides, right click on its name, select "Properties" and check the box for "Read Only". When your application opens the template it is a "Read Only" file and the user or your macro can only save it under a new name.
